The Islamic State had already confirmed the destruction of the temple of Baal in Palmyra by spreading images of the destruction of the bilmillennial place, one of the jewels of the Syrian city of Palmyra, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research demonstrated the blasting of the temple through satellite images.
The Institute has shown two photographs, one from June 16 and another from August 27. In the first image, taken on June 16, you can see the temple of Baal, apparently intact. The second, on August 27, three days after the Islamic State released the images of the destroyed building, shows that the place where the temple stood for two thousand years is replaced by a huge sinkhole, although the amphitheater is still in foot.
UN analyzes suggest that the columns surrounding the temple appear to be less affected.
